Director’s Letter
Dear Parents,
I hope you enjoy this first edition of our monthly email newsletter. Please take some time to see what the students have been up to in and out of the classrooms. Feel free to share this with a friend or colleague that may be considering private school or Ottawa daycare.
Our 2015/16 school year started off on a positive note this September with the introduction of 2 new programs at St-Laurent Academy: A new High School program in our main Campus, and a new Daycare program at the Ottawa Athletic Club. Along with these programs we welcomed new teaching staff, and new families into our school community.
Returning students have been introduced to our school-wide themes, and our first theme Community was showcased in the gym. As we had hoped, Community was interpreted in many different ways across grades and subjects. It was an interesting afternoon for students to learn about what others grades had learned and to demonstrate how they tied Community into their learning. Students are now working in the second theme, Heroes, Myths and Legends.
Our school focus this year, is student success. We are emphasizing individual attention, differentiated instruction and assessment, as well as more frequent parent contact when support is needed. Mr. MacNeil, Ms. Neu, and myself meet as needed with teachers, to exchange ideas and put into place actions to support student success. This approach has been very effective to address both academic and social/emotional concerns. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our teachers directly. Ms. New and Mr. MacNeil are also available to you, and, of course, please feel free to call me directly at any time to discuss the progress of your child.
Sincerely,
Bill Kokkaliaris, School Director
