The Grade 1’s had the privilege of visiting the Aviation Museum as part of the second school wide field trip relating to the theme Heroes, Myths and Legends. Our visit began with a story called “The Blue Balloon” by Mike Inkpen. Our wonderful museum guide, Tam, then took us on a hunt for hidden blue balloons in the museum. When the students spotted a blue balloon in front of an airplane they were then told a little bit about the plane’s purpose and had the opportunity to dress up as an aviator and actually sit in some of the models. We learned that Canada had many aviation heroes who delivered mail, food and various items across the country. Finally the students had the opportunity to construct their very own planes! It was a truly engaging morning.
